Stars

From the Texas trip:  "The stars at night are big and bright

Deep in the heart of Texas

Reminds me of the one I love

Deep in the heart of Texas."

Best part of the flight:  Seeing rivers like ribbons eventually tied into bows.

Wow, much has happened since then.  Joys, sorrows, everyday life.  Welcome, summer, with the evidence of God's wonderful creation and His power in the storms that seem to frequent this area.

Gaps

"The gaps are the thing.  The gaps are the spirit's one home, the altitudes and latitudes so dazzlingly spare and clean that the spirit can discover itself for the first time like a once-blind man unbound.  The gaps are the clifts in the rock where you cower to see the back parts of God; they are the fissures between mountains and cells the wind lances through, the icy narrowing fiords splitting the cliffs of mystery.  Go up into the gaps.  If you can find them; they shift and vanish too.  Stalk the gaps.  Squeak into a gap in the soil, turn, and unlock--more than a maple--a universe.  This is how you spend this afternoon, and tomorrow morning, and tomorrow afternoon.  Spend the afternoon.  You can't take it with you."

Annie Dillard, Pilgrim at Tinker Creek

I received a gift from a 7-year-old student of mine today that perked my my day.  She had made a bead bracelet for me with my name on it!  It was not very big, but it fit.  So sweet!

maxims

"You may not be what you think you are, but what you are is what you think."

"The definition is insanity is doing the same thing, the same way, and expecting different results."

"Behind every frowning providence is God's smiling face."

"Joy is the fully ripened fruit from the blossom of Thanksgiving, on the vine of Gratitude."

"When you get to the place where you don't want anything, God will give you everything."

"You give all He asks, then you can take all He has promised."

"The man is his message."
